Day One Totals

We ended up having 27 teams/54 players for the First Ever South Carolina Disc Golf Doubles State Championship.  We had only two day of registrations.  There was a team or two that came in the parking lot about 20 minutes after we had begun the first round.  I just hope that wasn’t a team that had traveled a long way for the tournament.

The morning round produced several low scores with it being a captains choice type format.  The afternoon round tested teams in a bit of a different manner as teams played singles while taking the best score of the two players for their teams.

Here’s how the standing sit at the end of day one…

You can see the teams spread out a bit more following the afternoon round.  In Pro Division there were five teams within one stroke of each other following the morning round.  The second round scores separated the teams a decent amount.  In the Advance Division all teams were with five from top to bottom…following the afternoon round there were eight strokes between the top and bottom of the advanced.  In Intermediate, there was a six way tie for third place following the morning round.  The afternoon round proved to be a bit more challenging.

There was one ace in the morning.  I think $90 was in the Ace Pool.  We will have the option of another Ace Pool for Sunday for those that are interested.

Two hole-in-ones in the morning round.  One of the Flounder Brothers aced number 12 (I was putting on 13 when the disc hit the chains) and another by one of the players playing along side to help keep play moving.  We had an odd number of teams and we had to have a ’spotter’ team.  Chris “TEAM Over The Top” Aced number 16 with a finger flick.

Even with the separation, I expect everyone is still in the tournament with a chance to cash if not win their division.  The morning round in Seneca is Alternate Shot.  Only one player from each teams makes a shot.  If you tee off, your partner plays the next shot.  So if you sink the putt, your partner is teeing off on the next hole.  With the trouble the Seneca has if you don’t stay on the fairway, I think the pressure can get thick with not wanting to put your partner in the deep woods off of the tee…specially on holes 3-7.  If a team can keep it on the fairway and hit their putts, they should be in good position going into the final round.
