As I was looking over the scores and making this post I was reminded of some stories I heard over the weekend, shots I saw made this weekend and battles waged this weekend.  I hope everyone had a good time and took away fun memories.

In all the Divisions you’ll notice that going into the second round there were lots of teams within one stroke of each other and how teams separated themselves in the second and third rounds.  That’s one of the reasons we decided on the particular formats.  Give all teams a chance to kill it in the first and last rounds with a Best Shot format…the format that gives players/teams the best opportunity to do well.  The best disc format where you play as singles taking the best possible score could produce low scores but not as low as the best shot format.

On Sunday the alternate shot round was the biggest test of the tournament.  A lot a separation occurred on Sunday morning due to that format.  I had considered doing a ‘worst shot’ or ‘tough shot’ format in the next year or two.  With the alternate  shot producing a tough as a challenge as it did, I don’t think we need to change the formats of the tournament anytime soon.

In Pro Mel Shuman and Josh Childs went into the final round with a two shot lead over Jason Makarovich and Matt Dollar.  Dollar and Vich shot a course record 39 and Shuman and Childs did their best but only managed a 42 and lost by one stroke.  Makes me wish I had a chance to watch that round.  I bet the pressure was mounting toward the end on both teams.

The battle in Advanced was won by the team of Steve Rose & Craig Dye.  They held the lead through the entire tournament.

In Intermediate produced a six team tie for third place following the first round.  There was a bit of separation after the second round and even more in the third round.  It ended with a battle between Alan Kane & Nathan Goowin and Team Blow Fly (Danny Marks & Robert Ellisor).  They were one stroke apart going into the final round and matched each other shot for shot with Team Blow Fly coming up short.

Some amazing shots were made over the weekend.  On Saturday Nathan Flounders had the only Ace of the tournament with a nice shot over the marsh on hole #12 in Easley.  Nathan was playing in the group behind my group so I got to hear the chains and was able to look back and see the shot had stuck.  Nathan won $90 with the Ace.

Audra Martin from North Carolina took a three on the 800′+ #10 at Easley on Saturday.  She told me she had the ‘drive of her life’ and then a nice second shot landing near the manhole.  She said she was attempting to get it close for a putt and it just so happened to go into the basket for a three from 200 feet away.

Aaron Evans drove # 7 in Easley in the second round to within 35′ of the basket…his shot managed to navigate several trees on its way down the fairway.  With all the calm in the world Aaron nailed his putt for a two on one of the hardest holes in Easley.

In the Pro Division, Matt Dollar nearly holed out for a two on the 555′ #3 hole in Seneca on Sunday afternoon.  To the best of my knowledge no one has hit the deuce on that hole yet.  But the CTP on the second shot was his and it was only 5′ from the basket.  That’s a lot trees to either go around or go over to get to that point.

I’m sure there are a lot of other great shots that happened over the weekend.  I just wanted to share a few that I enjoyed either seeing or hearing about.
