Here We Grow Again
The City of Seneca will be one of only a handful of communities across the country that will have multiple disc golf courses in one location. The Seneca City Council voted tonight to give Greater Oconee Disc Golf $6,000 to purchase 18 DisCatcher Baskets for a 2nd course at Shaver Recreation Complex.
Baskets will be ordered as soon as the city allows. The money came from a tourism grant fund. The City gives groups or projects grant money if what they do or promote brings in tourists. Being most of the players on the current course live outside the city, every time to come to play and spend money in Seneca, they’er consider tourists. We applied for just under $12,000. They awarded enough to buy the baskets with the understanding we would be back for more funds next year for cement tee pads and tee signs.
The current course at Shaver Recreation Complex is situated on about 12 acres of land. The new course has somewhere between 50 and 70 acres of land to work with. The available land can be viewed here. I also have bigger maps available if you would like to get involved with the design of the course.
The goal is to design a course that will have multiple pins on most holes and at least two tees per hole. GODG is hoping to have a championship caliber course in Seneca. Details to come.
