Getting Close

Monday, July 14th, 2008

The State Doubles is now less than a week away.  Seven days from now players will be celebrating their championship while others will be thinking about the birdie putts that got away.

Right now we have 19 teams registered.  I really want to see a full field.  Online registration is available through Wednesday.  Being that advanced and intermediate teams will be paid in merchandise certificates, online registration is great.  Pro teams might want to call me if they’re not in the area.  Any late online registrations means having to float cash until the last check from the PDGA arrives.  I’m confident I can float some cash…just not a bunch if we have several pro teams register online in the next day or two.

If you want to register through the mail I would think you would want your registration in the mail no later than Monday afternoon.

I will be in Seneca for their league Monday night.  I will not be playing in any other leagues this week.  However, I will be driving to Innova on Thursday and that will take me through Easley, Greenville, Spartanburg and other communities.  If you need to get me your registrations or want to buy one of the remaining Glo Champion T-Birds we have left, let me know.

Right now we have 3 pro teams, 5 advanced teams and 11 intermediate teams.  I know of a at least one team planning on playing Mixed Doubles.  Please let all of your disc golf friends know about this tournament.  I would love for a full field.

I did receive some phone call inquiries yesterday and all indicated they were going to play but I have yet to receive those registrations.

The PDGA Website is not allowing updates for some reason.  We’ve emailed all of the information to them to update the registrations and that hasn’t happened.  We will continue to update here, on this site.

Area Hotels

My wife contacted several hotels this morning. Please feel free to make a reservation at any hotel you wish. For those of you who are not familiar with the area. Clemson is between Easley and Seneca.

Walhalla Course

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

I talked with the park director in Walhalla Monday.  The course in Walhalla will be completed within two weeks.  The poles are in the ground and the tee boxes have been set in the ground.  The course is 18 holes with about half playing back and forth across a large hill/field and the others playing through a wooded area.

Hotel & Motel

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

We’re gathering information on hotels and motels tomorrow and will post either tomorrow or Friday.  We’ll have hotels listed for Easley, Clemson and Seneca.  I will be getting a room in Easley on Friday night for my wife and kids.  My wife will be handling a lot of the Saturday morning check in.

Frisbee Dog Demo

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

There is a couple that lives in Seneca that has two Disc Dogs.  There hosting a regional competition in Seneca in November.  I talked with them today.  There is a possibility that they will put on a demonstration of their disc dogs on one of the fields at Seneca over lunch.

We’ll have cookers at Seneca (hopefully) cooking hot dogs and hamburgers.  If everything works right, we’ll have the opportunity to have lunch time entertainment as well.

As you can see, the intermediate division is shaping up to be the most contested of the event.  We’ve had several inquiries about the mixed doubles division but no registrations so far.

Other than the mixed division having no registrations right now, the Pro field is only two teams right now and with $500 added to the purse if there are no other registrations for Pro, those two teams will be playing for a $780+ pay day.  My guess is we’ll have a couple more teams register for pro.

With 15 teams registered, we only have space for 21 more teams or 42 players.  We’re expecting a full field for the event.  Please get your registrations is soon.  The PDGA has online registration set up and it is very easy to use.  If your plan is to use the PDGA online registration I ask that you complete the online registration by this Thursday.  The PDGA will be cutting a check for the online registrations Friday and sending it to us in Seneca.  Any online registrations that take place after Friday morning we won’t get those funds till after the tournament…and I’m hoping to have to float as little money as possible.

A quick thank you to our sponsors…

TEAM Over the Top

It’s these sponsors that have allowed for 100% payout in all divisions and some of the added cash in the pro division.  They’ve also paid for some really sweet trophies.  I’m hoping that if you see someone from one of these businesses you take the time to thank them for their sponsorship.

CFR Discs

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Our CFR discs, the ones used to help raise money for the tournament, are going fast.  We received a couple of online registrations last night and signed up two more teams at the Timmons League.  Right now only 14 Glo Champion TeeBirds are left.

If you are interested in having one of these limited discs, please call or email.  Cost is $25 and 100% of the costs goes toward the pro purse.

Champion Glo TeeBirds

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

We’ve have 11 teams registered…so only 25 spaces for left.  We’ve only have 15 Glo Champion TeeBirds left for our CFR discs.  This is a really good looking disc and it glows…making it a keeper.

Talking with players tonight at the Seneca League, there are several people wanting to play that are looking for partners.  If you email me here, I’ll make a post of players looking for partners.  My email is on the registration or you can make a comment on this post.

100% payback in all divisions plus added cash to the pro purse.  We’ll have at least $500 added to the pro purse…and up to $800 added if some outstanding sponsors come through with sponsoring a hole.

All players will receive a disc and a t-shirt no matter which division you play in…even pro.

Please get registrations in early if you can.  We can’t save places…it’s first come, first serve.  I received two registrations Saturday in Easley and three online registrations today and expect to be getting several in the mail this week with more coming through online.  If you want a CFR disc, you’ll need to register online and indicate you want one when paying online.

We’ll see you on the 19th!

I plan to play at Timmons tomorrow and Toccoa on Friday.  I’m traveling to Franklin, NC tomorrow morning and hope to get back in time to make it out to the Timmons’ league.  I should have no problem making the Toccoa league on Friday.

We have only 17 of the Glo Champion TeeBirds left.  They’re $25 each and the money raised will be added to the pro purse.  My goal is to have a minimum of $500 added to the pro purse with all other divisions getting a 100% payout.

All players will receive a Players Pack with several goodies in them from Innova and other sponsors.

Please get registrations in soon.  Hopefully all the emails and phone calls I’ve been receiving (an average of 8 per day) means a lot of people are interested and plan to play.
