Some of the best female players in the SC Upstate will be teaching the basics of the sport this Saturday.

The players of the SC Doubles Tournament donated $415 of their winnings to this clinic.  If we want the sport we love to grow, getting more women and children involved is one of the keys.

The advanced champions were Chad Bearden & Bring Ling. Bearden and Ling finished 2nd place in 2009.

Intermediate Champions were Aaron Doyle & Steven Trello, the two youngest competitors at this years tournament.

Mixed Champions were team Dine & Dash: Christine Savvakis & Brandon Barker. Christine won this division in 2009 when she partnered with Mark Muren.

The tournament started off with heavy rains and lighting that caused a stop of play during the morning round and ended up canceling the afternoon round on Saturday. The weather cleared and we were able to play two complete rounds on Sunday. Hopefully, the 2011 version of the SC Doubles will bring with it clear weather.

In 2011 we plan to move the event back to Walhalla’s Sertoma Field and reintroduce the Tough Shot format on the 4,000′ course. We’ll finish, as always, in Seneca.

Everything has arrived other than the trophy discs.  They were shipped Monday and should arrive by Friday.  T-shirts and posters are being picked up tomorrow along with stock from Innova.

We’ve added an additional hole to each course to accommodate two more teams. We decided to not go with three teams on any holes to avoid slowing the pace of play down too much. With the length of Chattooga Belle Farm and a forecast for 90+ degrees on Saturday and Sunday, I didn’t want to extend the time of each round.

The additional hole at Chattooga Belle and Shaver Recreation will not be very long or difficult. Both will play between the 18th and 1st holes.

Their’s will be one CTP during the tournament that will include a complete set of ABC Discs.  They currently have 4 PDGA approved discs and one prototype that is expected to be approved soon.  Whomever hits that CTP will win the entire set of five discs.

We’ve got a bunch of CTPs through out the tournament.  Some will be for within the division while others will be for the entire field. A lot of people/clubs have be very generous with donations for the CTPs.  If you have anything you’d like to donate for CTPs, bring them Saturday morning.

When the morning round is finished there will be burger and hot dog plates available and the Disc-O-Dog team to entertain.

On Saturday night all players and guests are invited to a Player’s Party at El Alazan Mexican Restaurant in Seneca. We’ll do some sort of buy-in contest to win something and enjoy great Mexican cuisine and margaritas. The party start will be be about two hours after we’re finished at Chattooga Belle on Saturday…give everyone enough time to get cleaned up and take a rest before heading out to the restaurant.

Humble Pie is the restaurant next door.  Not only have they signed on as sponsors, they’ll be cooking Saturday at CBF.  You’ll be able to buy burger plates or hot dogs plates.  If you’d rather go for some pizza, you’ll be able to drive to Humble Pie and enjoy their New York style pizza.

Our breakdown of divisions…5 pro teams; 6 advanced teams; 23 intermediate teams and 2 mixed teams.

Day one is at Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek, SC.  If you haven’t been there before and are planning on showing up Saturday morning never having been to the course before, please allow extra time to get to the course.  It takes more time to get to the course than you think it will take you.

Day two will be at Shaver Recreation Center in Seneca.  Currently all the baskets are in the long positions except #4.  We’re doing a course maintenance day tomorrow and we will determine the location of the baskets for the tournament at that time.  What ever position the baskets are in by the end of the weekend will be the position for the first round Sunday.

The 2011 version of the SC Doubles Championship might include an Advanced Master’s division.  Between the Int & Adv divisions right now, five or six of the teams said they would be playing in an Advance Master division if it was offered.

For Saturday’s round we’re considering offering a $2.00 a plate, serve yourself, Sloppy Joe’s with chips.  If that is something you’re interested in, please let me know so we can plan.  This is something my wife is offering given the lack of restaurants in the area.
