There’s a Disc Golf women’s clinic in Greenville this weekend. If you’re a female player and want to learn some more about the port and improving your game or you’ve wanted to get you wife, girlfriend, daughter or friend into the game of Disc Golf, this Saturday might be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Some of the best female players in the SC Upstate will be teaching the basics of the sport this Saturday.

Here’s a flyer with more information.

The players of the SC Doubles Tournament donated $415 of their winnings to this clinic. If we want the sport we love to grow, getting more women and children involved is one of the keys.

Matt Dollar & Jason Makarovich. The 2008 champs came back after missing the 2009 version of the SC Doubles and won by three throws over Josh Childs and Scott Odum. The team of Zack Cuban Rogers & Luke Reiser took third place.

The advanced champions were Chad Bearden & Bring Ling. Bearden and Ling finished 2nd place in 2009.

Intermediate Champions were Aaron Doyle & Steven Trello, the two youngest competitors at this years tournament.

Mixed Champions were team Dine & Dash: Christine Savvakis & Brandon Barker. Christine won this division in 2009 when she partnered with Mark Muren.

The tournament started off with heavy rains and lighting that caused a stop of play during the morning round and ended up canceling the afternoon round on Saturday. The weather cleared and we were able to play two complete rounds on Sunday. Hopefully, the 2011 version of the SC Doubles will bring with it clear weather.

In 2011 we plan to move the event back to Walhalla’s Sertoma Field and reintroduce the Tough Shot format on the 4,000′ course. We’ll finish, as always, in Seneca.

Thanks again to our sponsors and the players that traveled to the Golden Corner of South Carolina for this year’s tournament.

We’re almost there. I’m more ready for this tournament to begin that I remember being the last couple of years. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not.

I want to thanks the sponsors for making this tournament possible…

City of Seneca - they’re the title sponsor this year with giving us the most ever of any individual sponsor (not including the grant we got last year)

Oconee Parks, Recreation & Tourism - They’ve been with us each year since we began. They also have a planned course for one of their county run parks in the future. If you need lodging and like to camp, hit their link on the side bar for phone numbers and info on their camp grounds in Oconee County.

SC Mountain Lakes CVB - They sponsored because all of you traveling to Oconee County are considered tourist and its because of you that make us able to quilify for funding from them.

Hometown Food Store - Seneca’s locally owned and operated grocery store. They’ve got the best meat counter in town.

Blue Ridge Electric COOP - A sponsor again after not sponsoring last year. It’s good to have them back on board.

Chattooga Belle Farm - They built a course with the best views I’ve ever seen on a disc golf course.

Strange Disc Sports - Z, as he in known, one of the best when it comes to promoting the sport of Disc Golf.

Fred’s Lockworks - Run by disc golfers.

Seneca Optical - Need glasses?

Pak Mail of Seneca - No better choice when you need to send anything anywhere.

Hwy 11 Specialties - Oconee County’s pro shop in West Union.

Disc-O-Dogs - Seneca’s award winning champion disc dog team. They’re providing us with a free demo Saturday between rounds at Chattooga Belle Farm.

Humble Pie & Chattooga Adventures - They’re selling lunch Sunday at Chattooga Belle

I’m looking forward to this weekend!

We’ve got 5 teams on the waiting list for the tournament. If you’re registered and find out you’re not able to play, please let me know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE that you can’t make it so I can contact one of the teams on the waiting list.

We’ve added an additional hole to each course to accommodate two more teams. We decided to not go with three teams on any holes to avoid slowing the pace of play down too much. With the length of Chattooga Belle Farm and a forecast for 90+ degrees on Saturday and Sunday, I didn’t want to extend the time of each round.

The additional hole at Chattooga Belle and Shaver Recreation will not be very long or difficult. Both will play between the 18th and 1st holes.

As of this morning the field for the tournament is full. If you want to be on the waiting list you can email, text or call me. My contact info is on the registration form. If its anything like the past two years, there will be a team or two that call sometime next week and inform me that they won’t be able to play. So if you didn’t get your registration in to me in time and are still interested in playing, please let me know as soon as you can because there might be a chance to get to play.

Our breakdown of divisions…5 pro teams; 6 advanced teams; 23 intermediate teams and 2 mixed teams.

Day one is at Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek, SC. If you haven’t been there before and are planning on showing up Saturday morning never having been to the course before, please allow extra time to get to the course. It takes more time to get to the course than you think it will take you.

Day two will be at Shaver Recreation Center in Seneca. Currently all the baskets are in the long positions except #4. We’re doing a course maintenance day tomorrow and we will determine the location of the baskets for the tournament at that time. What ever position the baskets are in by the end of the weekend will be the position for the first round Sunday.

If you have any questions, feel free to email, text or call.

The 2011 version of the SC Doubles Championship might include an Advanced Master’s division. Between the Int & Adv divisions right now, five or six of the teams said they would be playing in an Advance Master division if it was offered.

Lodging information can be found in the sidebar of this page. If you’re camping please consider using one of the Oconee County Parks. Their campground links and information can be found by clicking on the Oconee County PRT link under 2010 Sponsors on the sidebar.

For Saturday’s round we’re considering offering a $2.00 a plate, serve yourself, Sloppy Joe’s with chips. If that is something you’re interested in, please let me know so we can plan. This is something my wife is offering given the lack of restaurants in the area.
